I’m a little confused. I hear some people moaning about FCP 6’s lack of 4k support. But isn’t 6 going to support the Red Camera and its 4k files?

And, is Pro Res born out of Redcode RAW?

You can take Redcode and drop it in FCP6 and it will playback. It only plays back 1K of the image though. From what I saw at NAB, you probably wouldn’t want to edit in Redcode (they wouldn’t even put a dissolve between clips when they showed it). I’d edit in DVCPROHD or ProRes.

And with Color only supporting 2K, there’s really no way to finish at 4K using FCS2.

The Red camera and software for the camera is all very early stuff now. All of this will change as the Red camera, Red sofware, Apple OS and FCP evolve. At least that’s what Red Ted and others were saying in interviews. The great news is that Apple has fully embraced the Red camera and they will evolve together. Its pretty exciting for all of us I think.

Incredibly exciting. I’d say it’s a good thing to have Apple on your side. ;O)
