We’ve been doing most of our HD work in FCP/KONA, and still using Avids with SDI Mojo (not HD) for 35mm offline edits in NTSC 29.97.

We’re now doing a RED job in the Avid, and we’re fine with SD for offline, but I’m finding the Mojo SDI output when working at 23.976 is really ugly.

We’ve tried a couple of different encoding methods:

    1) use RedCine-X to make 1080p, MXF media, then change the AVID project to NTSC 23.976.
    2) Use RCX to create NTSC 24p quicktimes, import those into Avid (tried at various resolutions)

The HD MXF media looks great, the 24p quicktimes look decent, but the Mojo output always looks pretty bad – like it’s only outputting one field.

Is there a way to work in HD and use the Mojo SDI for downconverting?

Or – is there a Mojo setting I’m missing to work in NTSC 24p and output full resolution 29.97 w/ pulldown?

    Any suggestions?

Oops… “Operator Error” as they say…

I didn’t notice the Video Quality output settings were at green/yellow. Switch to green, NTSC 24p output looks great.
