Recreating this effect
Posted by Philippe Gosselin on December 4, 2012 at 10:34 pmHi all,
Take a look at these

https://www.thinkgeek.com/images/products/additional/large/e8c5_aperture_turret.jpg
So a kind of stencil/wash out look where only the main features of a face can be seen, the rest being blown out.
I’ve tried fooling around with Levels and whatnot but it is not the same. So I am wondering if one of you has a better recipe.
Thanks

December 5, 2012 at 5:26 amEffect>Stylize>Threshold will get you at least half-way there. Tweak the results with some pre-blur. If required, apply Effect>Channel>Invert to invert the BW result.

Apply Threshold Effect and then Find Edges Effect(you can find both under Stylize).

December 5, 2012 at 11:43 amSelect your layer.

In top LAYER menu, select AUTO-TRACE
Make sure PREVIEW is checked.
Make sure APPLY TO NEW LAYER is checked.
Adjust settings ’til strokes are where you want them.
Click OK.
When done, turn off original (lower) layer.
Put a new light colored solid under the top layer.
Select top layer again.
Add a EFFECT>GENERATE>SCRIBBLE to that layer
Set it to SCRIBBLE>ALL MASKS
Change it to a dark color.
Reduce parameters until you get the stroke look you want.

December 5, 2012 at 4:59 pmThanks Fellas!
Kim : Do you know how to reset the values in the Auto-trace window?
I kinda blindly fooled around with them and now I can’t get back to the default values for comparison.
Thanks

December 5, 2012 at 7:45 pmWeirdly – I don’t think there is a default (other than lifetime first use values.) Anyone who’s never used AUTO-TRACE want to tell us what they are?
