  • Recreating Photoshop Wave filter

Posted by Mike Faulkner on October 21, 2016 at 8:32 am

I want to recreate an effect same as
    Photoshop > Filters > Wave > Type – Square

Very early versions of After effects had this Photoshop Wave filter, but they changed it
I know there is a Wave Warp effect in After effects

But I am interested in using
    Wave > Type: Square option
Along with Numbers of generators, Wavelength, Amplitude, Scale
But especially ‘Undefined Areas > Repeat Pixel Edges and Wrap around’

short of using a very old affects is the a 3rd party plug in or expression I could use?
    Any help appreciated

    Regards
    Mike

show a screenshot of the type of effect you want to create and we can offer some workarounds. this probably could be recreated using a displacement map that has this type of texture animating.

    Hi Roei
here is screen grab I particularly like the random button and the fact you can change parameters over a timeline
I did think maybe I could do in Photoshop over time
but last time I checked I couldn’t do it

basically I have a really old machine and run an ancient version of After Effects, but its stopped working and surely there is a work around out there

    thx
    mike

I was thinking show before and after the a full res image. I can’t really tell what is going on but it seems you want the image to be divided in vertical rectangles or squares that are displacing is that correct? you can create a black and white representations of the way you want pixels to shift and use a displacement map to make the video shift it’s pixels in the same way.

    maybe it’s something like this:

animate the displacement map fractal noise inside and the effect will be animated.
