Recovering Files From Compact Flash Card
Posted by Ralph Chaney on May 27, 2011 at 7:53 pmCan someone recommend software for recovering files from a CF card?
A free app would be a plus, as long as it’s solid.
The card has been “erased”, but the files should still be there.
Thanks much!!!

May 27, 2011 at 9:22 pmHi Ralph,
I had good luck with PhotoRec. https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec
Freeware. (thanks again Jonathan Zeigler) https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/280/507#678
Took about 6 hours to rebuild 14G of files (MVI #’s were gone, but content was same number of files, full duration). My problem was just saving/copying files though, I could view from the card. Lots of support at the site to walk you through the austere interface. Good luck…ML

September 9, 2013 at 8:10 amCan you distinguish if it’s the card that is inaccessible, or just it’s filesystem? I know in Linux, you can access the raw device and try to get you data out of that (which should be possible, since it’s usually just sequentially stored JPEG files). you should try to format the card in Dos prompt, once. If you are unable to format it in Dos prompt also then consult a technician who has experience handling this types of electronic gadgets.
