Recovering data from harddisc from Flooding
Hi
I don’t know if this is the forum to ask, but I need immidiately assistance.
At my workstation we have just had a room filled with harddisc, xdcamdisk and all sorts of tapes flooded.
I am not that worried about the xdcamdiscs, but I am concerned about the harddiscs.
How is the appropriate way to rescue the harddiscs, they have been in the water for at least 6 hours.
I’ve read on different forums, and they say that I should keep the harddiscs sealed, so that they keep wet, in order to not destroy the spinning wheel. And then send them some place to be recovered.Do you have a rescueplan so that the data is not destroyed.

Sounds like you need real answers and expert advice, not the conjecture of people who may or may not have experience akin to yours.
Because of that, I’d get hold of someone like ProSoft Data Recovery at https://www.prosofteng.com or Disk Doctors at https://www.diskdoctors.com or OnTrack Data Recovery at https://www.krollontrack.com/data-recovery/
Which one would I recommend? I’d recommend that you search on all of them and check out what users have to say about them and make your decision after a thorough review.
You have one shot at this. If this data is critical, I’d take no chance trying to do it self-serve.

Ron is totally right as usual. In case you need more options, a few companies are listed below … I don’t have personal experience with any of these companies so I can’t recommend any, but each of the ones below was recommended to me by IT folks so they are the ones I would look at in a situation like yours. However I live in denmark, so I probably have to find a place nearby if they need to get the discs in order to recover them.Thanx again

Sorry to post this here, I can’t think where else to go. I have a Hitachi G Drive that was formatted for MAC but I reformatted it for use with windows. I need to get my data back that was on there before the format. Is there a way to get it back or has reformatting for Windows meant the loss of all data?
Any help would be much appreciated!

Unfortunately, you are VERY HIGHLY UNLIKELY to recover anything usable after reformatting a drive in the manner that you have.

Damn, just so ‘m clear the drive was full of data from my MAC which I then formatted to PC
I didn’t format my mac drive then format again to Windows in case you read it that way.
I spoke to a couple of companies (i’m based in the UK) and they both seemed to think it would be possible (but incredibly expensive)

If you can get a guarantee from them, you might wish to try it but usually reformatting a drive destroys enough of the files that a total recovery is pretty unlikely.
When you are dealing with huge files like digital video, the chances degrade even further as they are so spread out and threaded all over the drive sectors.
Again, if they are so sure ask them for a guarantee. If it works, you owe them the money, if it doesn’t, you are not out the costs.
