  • Recovering a project with auto save

Posted by Alan Balch on April 2, 2014 at 4:45 pm

    Hello all,

Yesterday PPro crashed on me and so i opened up my last auto-save to continue working.

I made a copy of the auto save project, called it “Recovered Project” moved it out of my auto save folder and into my main project folder where my last project was.

This morning when I opened up the “Recovered Project” none of my saves had been added from yesterday. I opened up my auto save folder again, and there were my most recent saves.

I should just be able to open “Recovered Project” without having to go back to my auto save folder, right?

Is there a change I need to make in my Settings Panel?

    Thanks!

When you Save a COPY, you remain IN the current project (in your case, the auto-saved version in the auto save folder) so even though you made another version of the project…you’re not editing in it until you exit the current project and open the new one. What you want to do instead is a SAVE AS, and designate a Save location outside the AutoSave folder.

    Thanks

    Jeff,

This may be a stupid question, but How do I recover from a previously saved Premiere Pro file?

FOr the second time in the past 2 weeks I have mysteriously noticed entire layers of audio missing from my timeline. Today it was also missing 2 bottom layers of video but only for about 70% of the 18-minute edit. I am desperately trying to recover from an auto-saved copy on my hard drive.

    My question to you is:
HOW DO I RECOVER FROM AN AUTO-SAVED VERSION? DOUBLE-CLICK ON IT?

    HELP!

Just open a saved project from the Auto-Save folder from in Premiere, or I suppose yes you can probably click on the project file as well. Auto-saved versions are no different than regular project files. The KEY THING TO DO once you are able to open a “good” previous version is to immediately use SAVE AS and save to a different filename and folder, away from Auto-Save folder so it does not get overwritten.

When you do have a problem with your project, it’s a good idea not to let Premiere sit open for an extended time, as the Auto-Save could very well be overwriting a GOOD version with the current BAD timeline. Time is of the essence

    Good luck

    Jeff
