  • recovered files in trash??

    Hello,
I was wondering if someone might be able to give me some information. I have searched “recovered files” in this forum and couldn’t find the info I need. I found some info, but could use a little more specific information.

There is a “recovered files” folder in my trash. It has two fcp files in it. I CAN open them. I have no idea why these files were recovered. I can then assume that I have done something wrong somewhere. I just have no idea what it was or where to begin, and of course how to fix the problem. and … What do I need to do with these files?
The files have names that I do not recognize, although when I open the file, it seems to be the same timeline that is in another project.
Could these files be render files that have been lost in the past?
I have lost render files before, and couldn’t seem to re-locate them, but I figured I would just render the project again and move on. Is this wrong for me to think and do?

Here is a little more information: I started working on this project with the intention of it being a fairly small finished project and it has turned out to be big with many project files referencing the media used in the original project file, the project file that I imported all the media in. When I say reference I mean that I created many additional project files that I copied and pasted different parts of the original from. I used more appropriate sequence settings in some of these newer projects.

If there is a problem, I would like to fix it.

Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

    thanks
    joe

If you have autosave enabled, FCP will start trashing old copies. You can specify this in preferences.

    Cool. Thanks. Good to know.
I am operating mostly with the default settings of FCP (7). So it probably is autosaving.
Is it better to keep these files? or does it really matter?
I usually ‘save all’ from time to time just to be sure work is not lost.

    thanks
