I’m working on doing a documentary, but I’m not very good with sound. I was wondering if someone could tell me what’s the best way to record sound while on the field. I have an XL1 with its stock mic and a shotgun azden mic. I’m wondering if I should just use only one of the mics or if both can be use or what the best way to do it is. I will have the azden on a boom pole.

You should probably move this question over to the “Audio Professionals” forum.

Your question has been asked there many times…Ty Ford will be happy to answer questions after you search the older posts there.

If at all possible, hire a professional sound person to work with you. While many people work as one man (person) bands, I think there is great value in a 2-person crew (at minimum).
