I’m recording a short 15 sec project to 35mm. The piece will be created in after effects, and out put as an image sequence. I’m assuming 32 bit tiff files. The theater that will be screening it has an old platter system with 5.1 Dolby. This animation will be cut into the leader of the film before each screening. Here are my questions?

    1. Any recommended labs for this process?

    2. What specifications should I bring the animation in on?

    3. What about different aspect ratios, and formats like anamorphic?

    4. How should I deal with the sound issue? (What do I need to make it compatible with 5.1, will a .wav file work?)

    5. Any idea on cost and turn around time?

    Thanks much appreciated

I’d say that Deluxe would do a fine job, but you may be able to find other labs, depending on where you’re located. The other questions should be answered by your lab, not by us here. 🙂

… and going to 5.1 probably needs to be done by the lab, mixed in their theatre setup. And Dolby requires you pay a licence fee. If I recall, a :30 spot cost around $1200 for the Dolby mix (stereo music only) and $400 for the fee, but don’t quote me on that. It may have been more or less.

Anyway, you need to get the tech specs from the lab. Assume nothing.
