  • Recording from Pioneer BJM 500 using Zoom H-1

Hi I have the following setup:
A DJ uses a microphone and plays back the output via speakers. He is using a Pioneer BJM500 mixer. I want to record the microphone signal with a Zoom H-1. What kind of cable do I need to hook the zoom up to the mixer?

Also how would I set the levels on the Zoom? Do I have to worry about the signal being distorted when the level is set to high when recording to a mixer? Could i use the Auto setting or would I set it like on another recording?

    Thanks for your time!

The appropriate cable would have a matching connector for the mixers output and the recorders input. Most likely it would be a line level or pro-sumer level (tape) output on an RCA or 1/4″ connection on the mixer. You would set your recorder for line level in not mic level in.

To be safe I would set the recorders input level at -20 to prevent any overload distortion or use the auto level setting on the recorder.
