My current job requires me to shoot presentations accompanied by powerpoint slides. The editing is not really the issue here, however the shooting portion is my problem.

The most recent event was over 10 hours long, which I shot on DV tapes. Not only is that a lot of tapes but also a lot of time spent digitizing. Is there a way to capture live feed with Premiere Pro or maybe another program that can possibly capture live feed?

The short answer is, not reliably. You best option would be to use both tapes, and Adobe Onlocation. If Onlocation crashes, you still have something to go to.

Are there any other alternatives than using tapes?

It wouldnt be such a hassle if it were a shorter session, but shooting on tape is not only expensive Im sure you know, its also extremely time consuming.

There are certainly many, and your best option will mainly depends on the connection available on the particular camera.

Here is one of the most affordable ones: https://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/h264prorecorder/

This records in H.264 (well yes, it sure beats DV), but for other formats the price range goes up quite quickly.

Sony portable DVD recorder attached to composite out+audio from the camera, get a copy of the PPT and save as JPEGs, convert the DVD to DV and drop the slides onto the timeline.

Or in CS5, jjst edit with the VOB files from the DVD.

    No conversion necessary. 🙂
