When using the puppet tool, I often use the ability to record the changes in playback mode.

Is there anyway to do this for other transform items etc? For example, adjusting the rotate parameter in the transform options of an object and get these changes to keyframe in automatically as the comp plays?

    Thanks

I am a little bit confused but I think If you will Enable “Auto-Keyframe Properties when Modified” button(small Stopwatch icon near Graph Editor), it will generate key frames automatically with the change in parameters.

But is there anyway I can record the changes in playback? The same as with the puppet tool when I hold cmd and adjust a pin?

An example of this is I want to animate the scale of an object to keep scaling up and down etc but instead of adding a keyframe > moving playhead > adding another keyframe…. Can I playback and move the scale transform and keyframes will be added to suit?

    Thanks

[Vishesh Arora] ” If you will Enable “Auto-Keyframe Properties when Modified” button(small Stopwatch icon near Graph Editor), it will generate key frames automatically with the change in parameters.”

Anyone who enables Auto-keyframing [link] should know exactly what this button does, because it overrides a fundamental After Effects behavior.

Ordinarily, keyframes are only created when the stopwatch toggle for a property has been enabled. This means that if you do not manually toggle the stopwatch, any change you make to a property affects that property for the entire duration of the layer.

When you enabled auto-keyframing, any time you touch a parameter, whether you have manually activated the stopwatch toggle or not, the stopwatch will be enabled and a keyframe will be created. This means that if you try to tweak the position of an item that is supposed to be static, you are actually creating a position keyframe. It is very easy to mess up your animation if you’re not expecting this behavior!

There’s motion sketch [link], but real-time anything isn’t Ae’s forte.

[Vishesh Arora] “Thanks for the brief on Auto-Keyframe button.”

    You’re welcome.

Auto-keyframe is not my favorite feature — I’ve actually campaigned for its removal because it causes so much grief for beginners who mistakenly click on it and then inadvertently trash their animations.

Compared with some other applications, I’d say that Ae has semi-automatic keyframing (off until you enable keyframing for a parameter, then automatically keyframing every parameter chnage). I think that auto-keyframe is a more useful tool in other other applications which do not record any keyframes by default.

    Absolutely right Walter!

For 3D application like C4D and others, its one of my favorite.

I myself haven’t used it till now for any project but thought it may help. Thanks again for the tip.
