    Hi,
I have two questions regarding the fs-100 (for the Panasonic AG-HVX200).
When the camera is set to 24P mode, the fs-100 unit inserts 3:2 and records at 60i.
Why cannot it record at native 24P as do the P2 cards ?

Secondly, and more importantly, the HVX-200E (Euro/PAL model) records 25P instead of 24P. How does the fs-100 unit record this signal since 3:2 is unavailable in this framerate? Does it record native 25P frames?

    Regards,
    Steve

The camera doesn’t stream video out the FireWire port when recording in native mode. When you record 25P on the 200E, you get 2:2 pulldown.

    Hi Gary,
Thanks for that… is there a way with FCP to remove the 2:2 pulldown?
    Regards,
    Steve

FCP v5.1 added pulldown removal during import. The only thing missing is 720 (25p, 25pn, 50p) support.

    Thanks again Gary….
So, am I right in thinking that I’m useless with FCP if I’m trying to do 720 (25p, 25pn, 50p) type work?
    Is there any workarounds?
How are you guys in Europe?Australia handling this camera and FCP ?

On a side note, am I correct in thinking I don’t necessarily need to buy the P2 card external transfer drive as I can either transfer directly from the P2 cards in the camera to a PC using 1394, or I can insert the cards into any PCMCIA drive and either edit directly or transfer them to a hard drive.
    Regards,
    Steve

There are some PC apps that will work with 720p50, such as one from Cineform I believe, but if you are using FCP, then 1080i50 is it, or the most official way at least.

You can transfer clips directly from the camera through FireWire, yes, or you can put the cards into a G4 laptop that has a PC Card slot. Other various devices may or not work. I personally have not tried anything else, other than the official Panasonic P2 5 slot USB device.

    [steve997] “Is there any workarounds?”

I believe HD Log from Imagine Products will allow converting the 720/25 and 720/50 files into formats that FCP can edit natively.
