Recording an Audiobook with Adobe Audition 6
Dear Friends,
Please excuse me for asking a beginner’s question.
I am about to record an Audiobook using Adobe Audition 6.
1. Would you recommend I record my narration into the multi-track screen or the wave-editor screen?
(I will have to add a short sections of extraneously-recorded-dialogue throughout the book, but mainly it will just be me talking.)
2. On the internet people seem to be raving about this concept of punch-recording. Is such a thing possible in AA using a mac?
3. How do I check that my file measures between -23dB and -18dB RMS?
4. What is the best way to normalise the audio, in waveform and in multitrack?
5. What is the best way to reduce noise in multitrack? (I can do it in waveform no problems.)

There are so many complex questions, that it appears as if you need to start at the beginning, and go through the help files and other Adobe resources.

If you’re just recording the voice track, there’s no reason to work in multi-track mode, and as far as reducing noise, it all depends on what kind of noise. If you’re recording in a professional studio, there shouldn’t be any noise, other than breath, essing, the occasional flub, and other things which need editing. If you’re getting too much noise, you should rethink where your recording, and what you’re recording with, in terms of mics, pop filters, and such.
As far as levels go, in Waveform Editor you can look at Amplitude Statistics. If you don’t understand what the RMS levels are, you need to do more reading. Here’s another good, one page look at Audition:
