    Hello,

The company where I work have a Sony PMW-EX1 and are thinking of doing some blue screen work with it. I know it has a full 4:2:2 signal through the HD-SDI out connection and I heard that to record this signal you need an external hard-drive connected to this output (or connect it to a mac/PC). I’m just wondering if anyone has used this signal to record footage and how well it worked? Also what do you recommend to record the 4:2:2 footage onto?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Some options for 4:2:2 recording using the SDI output of the EX1:

    1. Capture to an editing system that has a video I/O card with SDI (AJA Kona, Blackmagic Decklink, etc.). Make sure to capture to a 4:2:2 codec like Apple ProRes 422. Do not capture to the DV or HDV codecs.

    2. AJA Ki Pro

    3. Convergent Design nanoFlash

That’s great – thank you. I’ll put the suggestions to the company when we next discuss the option. they might have something like the Blackmagic Deck Link. I’ll have to look into it.
