Hey guys. I’m looking for a way to record the pen strokes on a Wacom tablet, as they happen live, so that you end up with a video/animation that actually shows the strokes coming on (as they’re being drawn), not just the finished product. Does AE have any integration with a Wacom tablet, and if not, can this be done in AE just using the mouse?

If not, I’ve heard that a program called Aura could do this. It looks like Newtek owns Aura now, but I’m wondering if there are any alternatives.

    Thanks.

AE’s Vector Paint should be able to do that. It comes with the Pro version.

AE does integrate nicely with a Wacom if I recall, but the Paint thing can also be done with a mouse. Mine’s been unhooked for a while.

I just got a Wacom Intuos 3 to use with AE 6.5 for Mac. The Write On option works great. Pen pressure and tilt can be assigned to Brush Size, Angle, Roundness, Opacity and Flow in the Brush Dynamics dialog.

After you have recorded your strokes, many characteristics of the strokes are keyframe editable.

Okay guys, figured it out. I’m in AE 6.5 Standard, so I’m not sure what I’m missing from the Pro version, but here’s what I can do to acheive my effect:

    1. Set the Duration to “Constant”.
    2. Draw the image I want.
    3. Then I go into the Timeline, where each brush stroke has it’s own layer. To create the draw on effect, I keyframe the End percentage, and then stagger the layers (or keyframes) down the timeline so that each stroke is drawn on sequentially.

    Thanks for your help!
