Client would like to host an event where we watch a live broadcast. Without commercials… and to be able to pause the broadcast at any moment…

So that means if the broadcast starts at 7pm, we would start recording the show and edit out the commercials on the fly, and then start playing the commercial-less feed at 7:30 to give us a half hour delay…

So we have our live feed and then the edited feed that can be accessed and paused and played, etc… all the while still taking out the commercials in the live feed and amending the commercial-less feed…

Any thoughts out there about how to manage this? Does this make sense?

    Thanks!

    TIVO?

You can certainly do this with some of the broadcast server technologies. EVS (used in sports for instant replays) is probably way overkill, but a Grass Valley Profile or something similar that will allow you to edit a file while it is still being recorded and then combine the clips into one continuous playlist.

They are available for rent – Bexel comes to mind, I’m sure there are other sources. They’re not cheap however, and unless you’ve got the time to learn the system, you’ll probably need an operator. It sure would be easier to just watch the thing live and switch to some kind of filler video during the breaks…

That’s why I say use a TIVO and just pop to black in the switcher during the commercial skips.
