reconnecting media to entire project
I had to change a background clip and its throughtout my entire 30 minute project… so i created a file and named it the same thing and moved it to the same location on my hard drive. and removed the previous clip… in final cut pro it says media offline.. and it will only let me reconnect it to one clip at a time instead of the whole project… please help!!

are the offline files double spaced in the re-connect window?
if they are, then for some reason you can only connect one file at a time.
Quit & Re-start FCP to fix this.nick

when i look on my timeline it shows the file as offline… but it sill shows the old file in my canvas…and it plays back fine… when i go to reconnect i dont even see my file name on there … just a empty space.

that can happen,
but i’ve never figured out the exact reasons for itnever the less you know the name & location of the file you want to connect to
2 approaches:
select all the files in the timeline
reconnect
in the reconnect window opt to connect only off-line files (3 buttons top right)
Locate your new filehis will work if the new file is the ONLY offline file
or the ONLY offline file with no name in the reconnect window.otherwise do a find in your timeline (Apple F) for the offline clip
find all
reconnect

As logical as your process may seem, it’s not the ‘correct’ FCP way to go about this. If you first select the master clip in the browser and make it offline, then replace the file and reconnect it, you may have avoided the problem. Comments anyone?
From what I read, FCP6 may avoid some of these problems, as it maintains a closer connection between the clip in the browser and the file linked to it. In FCP5, it’s not as simple a connection as you assume it must be.
