  • reconnecting media problem – help!

Hi. I captured some footage for a project and then, after I captured it (in a single media file), I renamed the Capture Scratch folder for that project (because I had an organizational nightmare/mess I was trying to fix). I knew about reconnecting media, so I thought I could just reconnect the clips to the original media file in the newly renamed folder when I reopened the project. But when I use the “Locate” function in the reconnect dialog box to find the original file in the renamed folder and then click “Choose” to choose the file, FCP returns me to the previous dialog box and does not show the file selected — and therefore does not give me the option to reconnect the file. Only the Cancel button is highlighted at this point.

Anyone know what’s up with this? I can get around the problem by renaming the Capture Scratch folder using the original folder name, but I really, really, really would like to use the new name. Can anybody help? Or am I just hosed here?

    Many thanks — Rumi Girl

    Hi, RumiGirl.
    Try this:
    – check your new folder name for %&$- and other non alphabetical signs +

Thanks, Andreas. The new folder name DOES include hyphens (-). I’ve been able to put a lot of new media files in that new folder — it’s just two files in the old folder that won’t move over — so my media files are now in two different capture folders. I guess I’ll avoid those non-alphabetic characters you mentioned in the future!

Can you elaborate on “trash fcp prefs”? Which preferences? thanks! — Rumi Girl
