Recommended Mac Pro specs for XDCAM editing station
Hi folks,
I know this is the FCP forum but I figured it might be the best place to start with this question cuz I’ll be on a mac working with FCP.
My work’s going to be upgrading my mac over the summer and they’re asking me what I’ll be requesting. Obviously, budgets are tight so they’ll be fighting me the whole way on this. Right now we’re SD based but we’ll be upgrading to HD soon. If we were to buy right now I think we’d be going XDCAM for various reasons. That said, I could use some help configuring a Mac Pro system that could handle it. Also, would I need any third party peripherals?
The machine is used primarily for editing, compressing (H.264 & WMV mostly), and motion graphic work.

MacPro either 4 or 8 cores and 8 GB of RAM. Done.

Also if you can swing it you will want dual display monitors, an HD I/O card (AJA or Black Magic) and an HD broadcast monitor…. as long as you are asking anyway
