Is there a recommended capture/video card that works well with Vegas? I am in process of building a new editing machine and this is a key component. Also, is there any other hardware devices that seem to be a necessity for Vegas or simply to make my life easier.

    Thanks.

Any standard OHCI compliant card is all you need.

If you want to convert from analog, you have a few options: Canopus makes a card that has that built-in, Canopus and several other companies make a convertor which will conver the analog to firewire, or you can use a camera or deck for that purpose.

    I’ll go first

    😉

all you need is firewire for capture – NOTHING else. either a card or built-in port or Canopus ADVC100/110 etc

if you have a hunky graphics card, it will help for compositing but not much else.

getting more memory is always a good idea, too

    🙂
