Recommendations for on-camera light
Yesterday evening I had to shoot an upscale party outdoors where 2 celebrities were to speak, and because of the intimacy of the setting there was no way to set up lights.
So I went and rented a little Canon battery video light, VL-10Li, which while pretty difuse and filling, provided a helluva good picture. This was more documentary than artistic, so it was more important to get a good record of the event. (BTW it was the 85-year-old Hugh Downs interviewing Kitty Carlisle, who is no chicken at 95!)
The only downside to this arrangement was that because I was using the hotshoe for the light, I had to recruit a boom man.
So I guess my questions are, what is the best battery operated light for this kind of thing, and is there one with a hotshoe on the top for a mic?
Have a wonderful day.
