I am a casualty of the Tolis Group company failure. I have an archive built on LTO 6 using BRU PE. I am lucky in that I kept an older version of my Mac system on a separate drive (2012 Mac Tower) so I am able to offload my LTO tapes made by BRU PE.

I am looking for a recommendation for LTFO going forward. I am a sole proprietor so a single tape drive system on a Mac would be recommended. What is the latest version LTO I should start with or should I wait for a future release. Ideally I can future proof myself for a couple of the next LTO versions. thanks

I would suggest purchasing a SAS LTO-8 desktop drive, as you probably already have a SAS interface card as part of your Tolis system ? Hopefully it’s an ATTO card and you can use this to connect the new LTO drive. Then start making LTFS archive tapes for your new projects. Also you can use BRU to restore the existing tapes and migrate these to LTFS LTO-8 tapes. You can use software like our YoYotta LTFS that runs on macOS. These tapes will be readable using any LTFS software on macOS, Windows or Linux.

    Hi John,

Not a casualty, just a slightly sick user :). BRU’s not dead and we’ve brought it and our solutions under the banner of a very well known organization. Look for the announcement this week.

Only a few hours left for “an announcement this week”. Holding off on dropping $$ on an alternative solution for now.. Any update on the New_Bru that we can count on today?

    Thanks

That’s great news! I’ve had nothing but excellent experiences with OWC. I had a TB Hub go bad about a week before the warranty expired, and they replaced it without a hassle. I got some bad RAM for my new MacPro, and they shipped me a new set overnight before I could send the bad RAM back to them. That’s exemplary customer support, IMO. I’ve bought a slew of other stuff from them, as well. Great company.
