  • Recommendations for an External DVD Burner?

Posted by Jake Diamond on April 20, 2006 at 1:41 am

    Hello,

Can anyone recommend a good DVD burner that can record in real time from a DVCAM tape playing in a DSR-11, that’s not outrageously expensive?

    Thanks,

    Jake

Just go down to your local electronics store and pick one up. You should be able to get one around $100 or less. I have Philips I picked up at Circuit City about 6 months ago around $125 or so.

    I own 4 DVD recorders.
But of them, there’s one that is the most versatile, reliable and FAST I’ve ever used.

    It records on DVD-R, DVD-RW,

    AND

    DVD+R, DVD+RW

    AND

Audio CD (makes a great standard audio CD!)

    AND

    CD-V (video CD format)

It will FINALIZE a newly-recorded DVD in under 90 SECONDS!!
(Many other units take up to 15-30 MINUTES to finalize a single DVD… that’s a LOT of time spent WAITING.)

    The Lite-On records DVD’s at HQ (1-hour) SP (2-hour) LP (4-hour) and SLP (6-hour).
And the image and audio quality is superb.
(Even the SLP recordings are very “watchable” unlike other DVD burners I’ve used.)

No component inputs, but it has S-Video (almost as good as Component. looks great) and FireWire for direct input from a DV source.

I used mine constantly for months… no problems.

This little gem can be found at (of all places) COSTCO, for the unbelieveable price of
    $169.00.

I read a bunch of on-line consumer “reviews” of this unit (Googled it), and it sold me.

Here’s a link to Costco and the unit:

They keep lowering the prices on these set-top DVD recorders all the time.

Thanks Matte, this sounds great. I was expecting them to be much more expensive.
