Recommendation: Table Top VO Mic
Can anyone recommend a table top mic I could add to the edit suite for clean, solid but still placeholder-level VO recordings? Thinking a few ben franklins max in cost. Can be USB or 1/4″ or XLR.
A few that popped up in a search were:
- Blue Yeti
- Apogee Electronics MiC 96
- Rode NT1
- Audio-Technics AT2020
- AKG Perception P220

I bought a Rode NT-USB a couple of months ago for just this purpose. Large cardiod with tripod stand and built-in pop screen. Seems to work quite well–solid build quality. B&H sound guy recommended it over similar models in the p[rice range. I didn’t get the blue ball model because it seemed quite large and like it would get dirty.

We use a Rode NT1 for VO’s, excellent.

So, I ended up with the Rode NT1 and so far it sounds so rich and complete I couldn’t be happier.
