For some reason FCP seems to be very picky about when it will recognize my JVC BR-HD50 DV deck. I have it connected to the front firewire port on my G5 quad core mac running 10.4.11 OSX. For some reason when I open the log and capture window it will recognize the deck just fine and then after a while of manually stopping and ffwding and rewinding tapes it will suddenly act as though there is no deck connected and is no longer communicating. Sometimes i will restart the computer then open FCP and the log and capture window and it still won’t recognize the deck. Then if I shut the computer down, unplug the firewire, turn it back on and reconnect the firewire while its booting up then fcp sometimes will recognize the deck again. There doesn’t seem to be a pattern, it seems to randomly recognize and not recognize the deck. Any ideas?

I have seen this issue with multiple JVC decks. no clue what to tell you other than it seems to be a pattern with those vtrs.

Our Sony and Panasonic DV / DVCAM / DVCPro HD decks don’t exhibit this issue.
