  • Recapturing HDV to DVCProHD From a DV 25 timeline and keeping in sync

Were shooting in HDV. We downconverted (with an M10U deck) to DV25 and edited a short 20-minute piece. When we tried recapturing the clips on the timeline to HDV, the sync was all orver the place. The timeline was asking for the right time code, but the HDV time code was off much of the time. My theory is that the HDV deck doesn’t know where it is when capturing short clips because of the HDV GOP.
However, when I have recaptured DV50 clips to DV25, with edited material on the timeline, I capture ALL the source material, (entire one hour cassettes) and all the cliips on the timeline are in sync. This, I theorize, is because the GOP has time to get it’s numbers straight when capturing over a long run.
We already have most of an hour show cut in DV25, but why wouldn’t the same thing work where we then recapture – and cross convwert – all the source material from HDV to DVCPro HD . It means about 70 hours of material, but if it works, fine. Has anyone done this? And is my theory correct?

I would test capture one entire tape as you are thinking, reconnect from it. Long GOP spreads information in both directions so finding all the information to the first frame from recaptured HDV has to be the issue.

    Good Luck
