Rec 709 to P3 LUT
I have a client who is at the tail end of post for a feature film. We may be preparing to add additional title sequences that we’ll cut in after grading.
I have a calibrated Rec 709 monitor (Flanders Scientific). Where can I find/purchase a Rec 709 to P3 lut? I can do the XYZ conversion myself. Resolve Lite doesn’t seem to have one.
Alternately, have people had good experiences using After Effects DCI P3 ICC profile even though the whitepoint is 5900K?

Most people use DCP creator that handles all that and mostly do not have to use separate lut.
Mostly displays are not able to reproduce accurate p3 and if you have exact calibrated
709 then you get accurate dpc after conversion.—

That’s actually a truth with some modifications. While most DCP software does include a Rec709 to P3/XYZ LUT, it’s not always clear what it does, and how it does it. There’s the issue of what gamma to use for the Rec709 (2.2, 2.35 or 2.4), and some DCP software (CineAsset, I’m looking at you) even uses the Rec.709 encoding curve to decode, which is just plain wrong.
And then there’s the problem of white point. Rec.709 uses D65, while the DCP white point is around 5800K. You can convert the white point (if you don’t, Rec.709 material will look sort of magenta in the DCP), but that affects other colors, often in slightly unpredictable ways.
So it’s not really a completely lossless and perfect conversion, although you can get quite close. I’d recommend testing different LUT options and variables.

In the LUTs built in to resolve, under cinespace there is a 709 to XYZ lut that does exactly this.

Yeah, but I think the Resolve Lut doesn’t change the Gamma.
And if it does what gamma does Resolve think the 709 is? (2.2 2.35 2.4)So you should test it before going the Resolve route…

It does change the gamma. Believe it assumes 2.2. But haven’t tested to be sure. Generally mastering to either 709 or P3 from my end.

My experience is that it does not change the gamma. Working in 8.2.2 (caveat), I have to do an XYZ pass and change the monitor gamma to 2.6

There were different LUTs in the previous version of resolve. The current version has two LUTs, one for P3, which does not change the gamma, and one for 709 which does.
