  • Reassigning multiclip angles after capture

Posted by Mark Hayes on April 29, 2008 at 4:23 am

Is there any way to CHANGE the angle desgnation after the clips have been captured? I have footage from XDCAM-EX1 from a cameraman and when I import the quicktim file of his footage to my timeline, I cannot change the angle designation. All of my footage from another camera is already capture as “Angle 1.”

The effect is that all clips have the desgnation as angle 1. I am not able to cut between shots taking advantage of the multiclip featuyre.

I have tried every which way to change the designation in item properties, for example, but it always reverts to angle 1.

    Thanks for any help.

In the browser, find the angle column. Type in ‘B’ or ‘Angel 2’ for one of the clips then select all the clips you want to change, and control click in the angel column and select the name you just entered from the drop down menu.

I tried this. When I change the angles designation in the main clip that I imported in the way you describe, when I create the multiclip, it defaults to “1”. You would think when I change it when i create a multiclip, it would inherit the same characteristics. Not the case.

    Anything else I could try?

    Thanks for helping me.

I am not a multiclips master by any means, but I am pretty sure angles need to be designated as whole numbers (1,2,3 etc.) or letters (A,B,C). Try renaming your individual clip angles to those and then remake your multiclip.

I can only suggest creating a nested sequence of the problem clip and rename the sequence. use the sequence as your mutliclip source.

You can always recapture and name the clip accurately when you bring it in. If you cannot get the tape, make a copy of your FCP project using SAVE AS. Try deleting the clip from the project, rename the media file on your drive and reimport it.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

I have now started to recapture my clips with angle designations like ‘”B”, “C”, or “2” -anything other than “1” which is the xdcam clip. When I recapture and see the new clip desgnation in the browser, after I make the clip a multiclip, the multiclip shows up with the angle designation [1] which cannot be changed.

Maybe there is a glitch. I have read about some multiclip issues on the forum here. Maybe this is just one more.

    Thanks for the help.
