  • Rearranging audio plugins crashes Vegas Pro 10

Posted by Ross Wissbaum on October 20, 2010 at 3:41 pm

Just installed Vegas Pro 10a in three of our studios. We use Vegas mainly for audio. There are some strange new issues in Vegas 10. Making an edit to an audio track while in playback will cause the audio to drop out for a second. This never happened on previous versions. (We have been using Vegas since ver 6)
Most concerning though in the fact that if we rearrange (or sometimes delete) plugins on the track Vegas gives us a Vegas has stopped working window. I’ve reproduced this in all three rooms. Different computers and different audio interfaces. I can open a blank project. insert an audio track, delete the noise gate. Move the compressor in front of the EQ and pick a preset and the program will crash. Not every time but at least 50% of the time. Can’t believe something this simple wasn’t caught in testing. If it happens more than once or twice it will cause a Blue Screen.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Figured out how to fix the audio dropout problem.
Unchecking Enable Track Buffering in Options/Preferences/Audio Device will stop that from happening.
I was actually doing that as the fix for my old Waves plugins and noticed it fixed the audio dropout issue too. Makes sense though.

cool..have you had the waves plugins work in the 64 bit version of Vegas or just 32 bit?

Currently using them in 32bit. I have had luck using the shell2vst converter though with 64bit before.

    https://www.xlutop.com/buzz/zip/shell2vst.zip

Copy the shell2vst.exe to your VST plugin folder.
    c:/program files/steinberg/vst… or wherever.

Run the shell2vst.exe and then drag the waveshell 5.9 or whatever file over it. It should make a new folder called “waves”. Inside that will be the new plugin files.
Unlike some others I didn’t have any luck dragging the files on top of the shell2vst. I opened up a command prompt and ran via that and it worked fine.

During the command prompt it asks you if you want to over write.
The answer is “no” for both…..
