I’m about to start a project editing animatics. There will be hundreds of storyboard panels in the timeline, and then over time perhaps other kinds of media. When people generally say things like “Kona 3 can handle ANYTHING”, does that mean I can get realtime handling of TIFFs or JPEGs in the timeline? What happens if I mix frame sizes and frame rates in the timeline? This would be built on either a G5 Quad or a Mac Pro, with an XRaid. Thanks.

FCP does a pretty good job of handling and scaling stills (making the still fit in video space) in real time. Eventually, you will run out of RAM and have to render, but it goes really fast. I have definitely done a “slide show” or two in FCP.

The only thing I see as a red flag in your proposal in mixing frame rates. You will have to conform all frame rates to the same rate as your timeline, preferably before you get to FCP, or using a plug in. If you give me more information on what kind of frame rates you need to go to and from I can help you.
