Are there any realtime rendering boards available for HDV as of yet. Editing HDV reminds me of my first ventures into editing video on a computer. After adding any effects or transitions, you need to render it out instead of realtime previewing.

There’s not help with a board for render times, but there is help if you capture it as something else instead… and keep it HD…

The fastest computer and fastest harddrives will give you some realtime effects in HDV. I can get some basic stuff like transitions and some filtering on my Mac Pro Quad 3.0 with HDV. The AJA Kona HD boards allow realtime play out through their boards which allows you to lay to tape without the hours of conforming your timeline.

HDV is just a terrible format to edit with in terms of efficiency. We convert all our HDV footage to DVCPro HD during capture using our Kona 3. This gives us a great realtime workflow during the edit and a 23 minute 1080i/50 show with all color correction and filters applied only took 33 minutes to render out for mastering.

    Hi Jerry,

I’m already a subscriber and read your article. BTW, that was one heck of a great piece. It looks as though I’ll have to go that route, with the Kona Card and an a raid. Hopefully some new tools will pop up a NAB.
