is there a way to get make footage play in realtime inside of AE without the need of rendering the frames?

I need to do some work where i have to line up some footage on the timeline prior to start with effects etc.
it’s extremely timeconsuming to render a preview each time i moved the footage for a few frames from left to right.

Since it’s really just the lining up of the clips that I need to do first I think if there is no way to do this in AE it might be a good idea to do it in premiere the then somehow move it to AE.
Is there a standard workflow for this?

Depends on the footage and your computer. Usually, nope.

Yep. You can import Premiere sequences into AE or copy paste from PR to AE.

the speed of my machine should not be the issue since it’s very fast. which setting enables the “realtime” preview – if there is any?

No real time preview in AE, not yet.
Work in Premiere and then import in AE like it was suggested
