hey guys im editing some sony xdcam footage on my apple g5 dual 2.7 processor with around 8 gigs of ram. i am ahving some really slow render times for some color correction effects such as for a 10 second clip maybe like 35 minutes render time.. does this sound abnormal to anyone else? i feel like it should be so especailly with the specs of the computer.. it has leopard and everything is up to date.. let me know if anybody can think of some common erros that might lead to this. oh the footage is also mutlicliped with 3 cameras attached but the render times are the same when i try it for just one of the angles…

XDCAM is a GOP format..very processor intensive. And you are running a G5, not even an Intel Mac Pro (which are like 4 to 8 times faster than the G5s)…so yeah, you will have long render times. With GOP formats like HDV and XDCAM it is recommended to capture them as ProRes or DVCPRO HD…get out of that format as soon as you can.

Otherwise, you have long render times.

    Hi

run the same setup – this solved my problem – Go to your FCP user prefs and click on RENDER CONTROLS unclick – always render at best quality – You just saved yrself at least 50% OF yr previous render time.

When u export the quality remains at the original footage quality – so no need to fear final export quality

    Hope it helps u

    William
