Realistic brush in Red 4.3
Posted by Mark Rothman on March 8, 2010 at 8:29 pmCan anyone recommend a way to make the paint effect in Red look like you’re using a real paintbrush with rough edges?
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Try playing around with the “Dab” controls.
Set Dab scatter to about 2 and Spacing to 0-1. Play around with the shift and angle as well…this will help achieve a less smooth look with the brush.

March 8, 2010 at 9:38 pmThanks Matthew, but I meant like painting on an image with a wide paintbrush … with bristles. Maybe use some kind of streaky background mixed somehow with the original image so the edge is streaky as the paint edge moves along?
Does that make sense?

March 9, 2010 at 6:00 pmIf you open the style palette, and go to the brush tab, then click on the pop-up above the brush profile icon and you should see a variety of different brush sets that can effectively emulate many different looks, including a bristle brush. For the bristle brush, select “spray brushes” and then scroll the panel on the right to the bottom and you should find a few to your liking.
You can add to the built-in brushes using image files to generate your own customized looks.
I hope this helps,
Peter.
