Real-Time Scopes
Posted by Joseph Wilkins on January 16, 2009 at 4:11 pmIs there any way to see my scopes in FCP for a real time video stream?
In other words use FCP hooked to a live camera to monitor my scopes before I shoot?
Thanks

January 16, 2009 at 4:18 pmIf you open Log and Capture, switch to Non Controllable Device and then open Scopes tab in that window.
Might work if your system is fast enough.

January 16, 2009 at 5:15 pmTake a look at Scopebox.com – it is a bit pricey, no idea why there is such a jump in price to unlock HD version.

Both Scopebox and Adobe’s OnLocation do this without issue….
both offer real time scopes continuously operating during capture without the inherent lag in FCP.

Hmmmm, I’ll have to look at On Location then. It came bundled with CS4 Production Premium package but I had no idea what it was.

January 16, 2009 at 8:46 pmOn Location used to be Serious Magic.
VeeScope Live, Scopebox and Conduit all do this without needing FCP.

January 16, 2009 at 8:50 pmThanks all for your help, but I posted the question after seeing scopebox and being poor and having no money and wanted to know if FCP will do it for free!
I will try Walt’s suggestion
thanks

January 17, 2009 at 12:59 amI’m not sure what format you are shooting in, but I have had terrible lag times with HDV that have made the scopes in Adobe OnLocation completely useless. With lag times of a second or more, it does not help to see the scopes. Anyway, I just wanted to point that out in case you’re using HDV (and maybe AVCHD, too). It might not be worth the trouble (although he can resist the curiosity! :D).
Best of luck!
