    Hi all,
    I’ve 2 PC:
    1 P4 3Ghz socket 478 1GB ram Matrox Pharelia 256 + RTX100 ( one year old )
    and 1 P4 3Ghz socket 775 512MB ram Nvidia GF6600 256 ( buy 1 month ago without any real time hardware device )
I’m used to apply some 3rd party video filters ( Digitalfilmtools 55mm, sapphire genarts glow, Trapcode Shine, starglow )in my Adobe Premiere PRO 1.5 projects and I noticed that in the new PC I get a smooth real time preview … even better that using the “old” pc with RTX100.
    Why ?
The RTX100 system is only usefull by using their own filters ?
Thaks in advance for your opinions and suggestions

    That is correct.

The Matrox card should not cuase other effects to play less smooth than without it, but it is possible…

More and more folks are pulling their Matrox and Canopus cards out in favor of software only.

I agree with you about the near future will be real time software, but what about HD format? It needs very powerfull pc

HD has already ushered in a new breed of accellerator cards like Deck link and others to deal with the quantum leap in bitrate, although the CineForm Pro plug-in and the FX1 might be the flavor of the future for most, like 1394/DV is for SD now.

Seeing as it’s one’s own perogative to pull a card or not…

I’d keep an x100. With the realtime preview, it’s one thing, but you don’t have to render out any of your effects, you get a realtime file format from your other apps (AE and Combustion can render to matrox), and you also get realtime output to tape, MPEG2, MPEG1, and others.

You also get analog input, output, and WYSIWYG on a whole slew of applications.

If you’ve got it, it’s worth hanging onto. You do have the option of working outside of matrox mode, if that’s your thing, and you still get the benefit of working with it’s features whenever you want to…

Heck it’d be worth hanging onto anyway. If and when Matrox builds up a new HDV version of the x100, you betcha you’ll want to have something to use as a potential trade-in.
