Looking for anyone who may have used Final Cut to encode a real-time event. We have events that last 8 hours, 3 days in a row. We currently roll record on the event on 2 DVCam decks, but I’m wondering if I could use Final Cut to encode it real-time while the event goes on and use fewer tapes and reduce encoding time. I know I’ll need a card with a break-out box, a Mac, and plenty of hard drive space. Can anyone else think of anything that I’d need based on having done this before yourself?

Any and all input is welcome. Thanks in advance!

    Hi Scott,
You don’t need even FC. Plug your FW camera to your Mac, open QT> New Movie Recorder, and start recording.

Actually, I am not taking it off a single camera, I’m taking it in from an SDI native switcher, so the cam-in isn’t going to help me. Anyone?
