Did you ask them? They would be the ones to ask. Did they request audio be done in that manner? because there are many readers out there that read that timecode audio track. Typically an external box in my experience, but there might be software options.

I used the mp3 process for several years with a captioning company and it worked very well. They created a proprietary file for use with their captioning software and used a timecode reader to decode the “noise” from my mp3.

As long as you create the file using the specs of the transcription service, it should work fine and you can let them worry about how to make it work from there.

    There are software solutions.

    One of them is here

But personally i prefer QT TC, more reliable and easier (if the material is already ingested that is…)

I recorded MP3 with Trew audio transcription Y cable to Olympus LS10 .. ch1 TC ch 2 audio, and sent to prod company by yousentit… pretty simple.. all levels fine..

Then got email that there was no TC.. not aggressive at all.. ofcourse there was TC… but they didnt know how to read the TC from an audio track.. they asked some transcription place who then claimed the sound engineer must record to a broadcast wave file recorder….so it seemed to be going round in circles as usual.

I just want to establish that what I sent is standard, request was for MP3 file with audio and TC,but also out of my own interest I wondered how actually do they read TC from that racket..

    Thanks

To be more accurate, the mp3 files I created had audio left and TC on the right. As long as the audio and TC are separated – not mixed together – then TC should be easily readable by anything that has a TC input.

You could playback your mp3 on an iPod plugged into any professional tape machine, TC reader, editor, or caption encoder and the timecode would be properly decoded and displayed.

Yes my recordings, well the soundguys, are separate TC and audio… basically I would always say no to these audio with TC requests as it was a real pain.. until someone came up with this great transcription cable with a -50db pad for the TC.. now with the LS10.. I get a nice low TC level and audio is fine just set to auto.. and the channels are split, with no bleed over from a hot TC level.

    Thanks again
