Read about MacOS 10.5 being 100% 64Bit
Posted by Jan Bliddal on June 12, 2007 at 9:55 amWoundering if that means that Final Cut 6 will be able to use all the memory you can throw at it when using MacOS 10.5. I mean if the can make a program that runs PPC and Intel Codes they should also be able to write a program that runs 32bit and 64bit at the same time.
Let the machine work for you. Not you for the machine

June 12, 2007 at 11:46 amWho knows. The apps that can take advantage of 64bit will certainly be trumpeting that when 10.5 is released. There was speculation at NAB that there will be a major update to FCP 6 when Leopard is released. A while back Tom Wolsky posted a link to a patent application page that clearly showed FCP with an interface that looks more like Motion than the current FCP interface. Possibly that could be part of the update when Leopard comes out.
Course it would have been nice if Leopard actually came out this month like it was originally supposed to. But at least the iPhone will come out on time.

June 12, 2007 at 8:12 pmSomething tells me that FCP won’t get updated until NAB next year or at least the “new interface”.
Now… I wouldn’t be too surprised if Apple does the same thing like they did with FCP 5.1 as a software disc trade-out.

June 13, 2007 at 1:52 pmThey wouldn’t need a 32 bit version. It would piss some people off, but it seems plenty of folks are already up in arms over FCS 2 performance on older machines. All you need is Leopard and a G5 or higher. I actually think that the mini wouldn’t be supported by a 64 bit app, but that’s already unsupported because of it’s graphics processor.
