Re Vegas Platinum 8.0
Posted by Tony O’brien on January 5, 2012 at 8:04 pmHi.
Please accept my apologies for starting a new thread on this and feel free to point me in the right direction if there is one.
I have Vegas Platinum 8.0 which I have been pottering around with for a while. I have been able to edit down some digital video and made it into something vaguely watchable. The initial files had .vf extensions, the finished edit was rendered and is a .avi file (I think I’ve done it correctly) and I now want to be able to burn it to a DVD such that it can be seen on a commercial DVD player.
So far I have tried to burn it to a DVD without much success. Can anyone make any suggestions please?

January 6, 2012 at 7:17 pmI suggest you save it as an mpg then if you have windows 7 use the windows 7 burner to select it and burn the DVD. Much simpler than Sony Architect. I am working on Architect but use Windows burner until I get better at understanding it.
Hope to see you

I have had the same suggestion from a friend. Unfortunately, I don’t have Windows 7. I have had a go at following the Sony Architect manual but it isn’t clear how to burn the DVD.
I found an on-line trial – DVD Burning Xpress – which, at least, gave me a simple way to burn a DVD which is all I want to do.
However, I’m still game for suggestions.
Thanks

Press the Make Movie button in Vegas Movie Studio 8.0 and follow the wizard for making a DVD.

January 7, 2012 at 5:13 pmHi John
I have done that a few times and I feel I am missing something that should, by now, be pretty obvious.
My understanding is that I should finish by burning two folders on the DVD, one called AUDIO_TS (which is ’empty’) and the other VIDEO_TS with VIDEO_TS and VTS_ files in it.

Your understanding should be to use DVD Architect and not worry about the physical layout of a DVD. Make Movie drops you into DVD Architect Studio with your video already on the menu. All you need to do is edit the title and press Make DVD | Burn. That’s really all there is to it.

January 7, 2012 at 7:50 pmHi John
I have a lot to learn but, at least I can see light at the end of the tunnel.
One last question. The 15 minute video I managed to burn onto the DVD appears to be about 41MB. On that basis (if it relates directly to this) could you advise what the maximum time length of video that I should realistically get onto a standard 4.7GB dvd?
Thanks

You can expect to get about 1 hr 20 min on a 4.7GB DVD at the regular 6Mbps average bit rate. You can lower the bit rate to get more video on a disc but at the expense of lower quality.

Thanks – you’re a star, you have made such a difference!
I’m sure I have a few more questions. Are you willing to answer them as and when they come up?
Regards
Tony
