    Hello,

I’m doing a project that has been shot on a Varicam at various frame rates. The initial workflow idea was to dub the tapes to DVCAM for doing an offline, and then online elsewhere. However, as we have 2 FCPHD stations (Cinewave & Kona 2) we should be more than equipped to do the whole edit in house, we don’t have fast enough drives for true uncompressed HD, we do have a 30″ monitor connected to a Blackmagic HDLink. I figure that we can take the footage in via in Firewire, that seems to be the beauty of this format. So my question is how much does the various frame rates take up Gigabitewise? And if anyone has any tips, is this the right way of doing things?

    Thanks in advance

    Otis,

If you have had any experience shooting 16 mm film then this rule of thumb might be helpful for you. If you are doing a 24p project consider 1 Gb of DVCPRO HD roughly equivalent to 100′ of 16 mm film. The faster frame rates will just burn through that 100′ faster then 24.
