Re-Rendering is torture
I have FCP 6 on my macbook pro and i use an external hard drive as my scratch disc (lacie rugged).
Everytime i open FCP i have to re-render clips and sequences that i have already rendered, it’s torture. Funnily enough, its not every clip, but the majority i will have to re-render.
Why is this happening, and what can i do to stop this from happening? Can i re-connect rendered files?

What version of FCP6 do you have. I think that was a bug that came with the early versions of FCP6.
If you upgrade to 6.0.6, that is the latest version of 6.

If you rendered before saving, when you launch the application you should see an alert telling you a bunch of files have gone offline. The rendered media files exist someplace and your system isn’t finding them. Where did they go? Are they in the trash? Can you relink to them?
Search your external for them by sorting the Render Scratch folder by date.bogiesan
