Activity Forums VEGAS Pro Re-rendering in DVDA with Bluray

  • Re-rendering in DVDA with Bluray

I know this has been discussed in previous posts, but I want a specific answer to my question.

I am creating a blu-ray project in Movie Studio 10 HD to then send to DVDA. For the project properties, I let Vegas pick the settings based on one of the clips I have taken on my Sony FX7. The settings are as follows:

    Template: HDV 1050-50i (1440×1080, 25.000 fps)
    Width: 1,440
    Height: 1,080
    Field Order: Upper Field First
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.3333 (HDV 1080)
    Frame Rate: 25.000 (PAL)
    Res Render Quality: Best
    Interlace Method: None

I specifically turn the interlace off as I do not need it. I do not want the frames interlaced.

The render takes ~ 3.5 hours for a 2 hour video and this is with an iCore 7 w/ 12GB RAM (64 bit).

I set the project up in DVDA and set the properties as follows:

    Disc Format: Blu-ray Dsic
    Target Media: 25.00
    Video Format: MPEG-2
    Bit Rate (Mbps): 18.000
    Aspect Ratio: 16:9
    Resolution: 1440×1080
    Frame Rate: 25.000 interlaced

The question is…why does DVDA tell me that it has to compress all my video tracks when I create the BD, in turn, re-rendering the project again? I have a feeling it is to do with the fact I have set the interlacing to NONE in Vegas. Is there a way that I can skip the re-rendering as it is time consuming and annoying.

Yes you do! You shot interlaced video with your FX7 and you had better tell Vegas the deinterlace method that you want to use otherwise will will see all sorts of interlace problems.

We can’t tell because you didn’t tell us what your render settings are. How did you render the file? What settings and template did you use?

Does this still apply if I making DVDs/BDs for viewing on Full HDTVs via a player connected with a HDMI cable? Reason I ask is, ‘most’ of my clients (and me) are using this setup no issues. Based on your advice I will turn it back on.

I am not picking a template. I select ‘MAKE MOVIE’ and then pick ‘Burn to a DVD for Blu-Ray’. Then I select Blu-ray.

I typically do not use the Render As feature unless creating videos for the blog or iPhone4. By the look of it, I would need to render twice if I did use Render As; once for the video ‘Main Concept MPEG-2’ (*.m2V) and once for the audio ‘Sony Wave 64’ (*.w64).

Yes it matters. This has nothing to do with your output format. This has to do with how you want Vegas to handle interlaced media. There are times when Vegas may need to deinterlace your video to process it. This setting tells Vegas how to deinterlace it. You should never have it set to None unless you are working with all progressive footage and there is a specific reason that you don’t want Vegas to deinterlace. Otherwise there is no reason to turn this setting off because if Vegas never has to deinterlace your footage it is just ignored.

I’m not sure why Make Movie would not make a Blu-ray compliant file that DVD Architect would just use as is. Try rendering as MainConcept MPEG2 using the Blu-ray 1440×1080-50i, 25 Mbps video stream template and see if DVD Architect wants to re-render that. It shouldn’t.
