I am trying to import a content folder that apparently never had the .text file attached. FCP does not pull in the footage can I copy another .text file to bring it in or is there another way to fix it???? It shows 14.66 gigs of data in the folder so I now some of it is there. Any help would be much appreciated!! Thanks in advance.

    Gotcha covered:

#38-P2 – Missing LASTCLIP.txt file. How to rebuild.

Shane’s Stock Answer #38 – When you offloaded the P2 cards, you forgot to get the LASTCLIP.tct file? No worries, not all is lost.

    MISSING LASTCLIP.TXT FILE:

    https://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=58755

If you neglected to copy the “lastclip.txt” file all is not lost. Much like the six million dollar man, we can rebuild him.

Lastclip.txt can be generated by any text editor. If you are using a mac then open up textedit.

Create a new txt file. It will have 3 lines to it.

The first line is the name of the last clip that was recorded.

Back to the finder. Open up your CONTENTS folder. In there, open up your VIDEO folder. Organize the folder by Date Last Modified. Find the name of the last file in this folder. If you have 16 clips in the folder is will be 0016ag.mxf or something like that. Four numbers and two letters followed by .mxf.

Take this name and place in the first line of your text file. On the next line of the text file type in “1.0” (don’t include the quotes).

The third line is the number of clips in the folder +1. If you have 16 clips then the third line should read “17” (again no quotes).

I’m not 100% sure if the number on the third line is the number of clips left in the folder (after any on-set deletions) or if it is the total number of clips generated during this session with the card. Try both. Remember to add 1 to that number.

Your txt file should like something like this:

    0016ab.mxf
    1.0
    17

That’s it. You should be good to go. Put your CONTENTS folders in separate folders with separate LASTCLIP.txt folders and import them as separate P2 cards.

The annoying thing is that all of the various .mxf files in these 6 folders are locked items and they must all be unlocked manually to erase them.

It’s much easier to import direct into FCP 5.0.4 or higher. It does so without leaving all of these locked files on your computer.

Credit for this solution goes to Randy Wedick.

YOu shouldn’t need the text file. What is happening when you try to log and transfer?

Nothing is happening. It does not import the data into the log and transfer window. It does nothing. I just built a new .txt file according to the earlier post and directions but that did not work either. What is my next step??

OK. What camera? What’s your folder structure?

Ahh…so you navigate to the folder and nothing happens? OK, do you have FX FACTORY installed? Even a Demo. Early versions caused this to happen.

Are you on a Network…and have network drives mounted. This will SLOW DOWN the import…they won’t show up for a few minutes (I just figured that one out).

    Shane,

Thanks for your help. No luck still. But I learned a bunch on the .txt file rebuild. Thats a bonus. tomorrow I will reshoot some spine interviews and make it work but have lost some data that can’t be replaced. I haven’t given up yet so i’ll keep hacking this baby till i crack her.

My camera is the HVX200 old school. Folder structure is the content folder with all needed data… voice , video etc…. just a content folder that gives me a info of 14.66 gigs. so I see that all the mxf files are there but they do not and will not log and transfer into fcp. I even tried the P2 software from panny. No go there either.

No I do not have that installed. Latest version of FCP/ Quicktime. I am up to date but out of luck looks like my associate producer may have not copied the files correctly. He is filming in Zimbabwe and I am trying to figure this out without him. EH….

[Jim Kinsey] “I even tried the P2 software from panny.”

Hmm. That’s not a good sign. P2 has worked on your system before, correct?

Do me a favor and download this free utility. Have a look at a few of the P2 MXF files in the video and audio folder and tell me what they say.

You’ll have to ‘sign up’ for it, but it’s free!

    How were the files transferred?
