Hi I am now using Avid MC 12.0.5. on Mac G4 oS 10.2.6 dual 1.4 GHZ 2 gig ram. Need to start a project that will have a final output to NTSC DVD. Source DVD is Ntsc but have not work in NTSC timeline before.

In the past we use FCP and we convert NTSC to pal for editing (using standard converter) and then back to NTSC (using compressor)again. But now switch back to old Avid so should I use NTSC setting to edit? Need to output to PAL master tape though unless this time my boss is ok with NTSC mastering in DVD.

Stuck with limited software. Any advice on which software I can use for export to Mpeg 2 then use an Authoring software for DVD? Can DVD studio 1 be used for OS 10.2 or even 10.3.9 which I installed in a partitioned drive. The OS 10.3.9 cannot work with my ver of avid. Have tried sorenso in a PC for adrenaline but not for mac G4

Your help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

Assuming you have a Meridian box, I’d just hook up a DVD player to Avid and digitize to a PAL project. You could use freeware like StreamClip, but going analog to Avid seems like the least problematic.

Doesnt sound like PAL will come into play this time. You can do the whole thing in an NTSC project.
Unfortunatly, you are best off then laying that show off and recapturing it for export to DVDit. While DVDit accepts QT references from Avid, at does not understand precomputes. If you don’t have motion effects, you can get away with hugeass video mixdowns for the whole piece but I have found it far less irritating to just sacrifice a generation.
Do you not have FCP this time around?

Hi Guys, thanks for responding. Yeah I am using a Meridian box.

AM trying to capture via DVD player thru standards converter. I have to use PAL as the NTSC setting don’t seem to sync up- seems to sliding to the right all the time even if I patch a NTSC reference into the IO box. Moreover I will be using some editor tool kit stuff which PAL format.

Does DVDIt work with MC 12.0.5 or OS 10.2-10.3.9 I just had a quick look at the roxio’s web and I think it supports only PC.

Mpegstream seems slow but if no choice I will just have to try- any recommendation on settings for export to NTSC mpeg 2? Think I will try DVD studio (for Authoring) if I can get my hands on it.

Any other software out there that works well with MAC G4 and con convert from PAL to NTSC DVD? I do not have final cut pro at the moment. Might be able to get an older ver from our oversea office as they have upgraded to latest ver.

    Thanks Guys for sharing1
