All of the sudden when I was having a hard time trying to save things in AE after having it for 2 and a half months it stopped working. When I try to open the program everything seems like it’s gonna open and then right when it says: Initializing user interfaces it got stuck – so I tried to open it several times after that with no luck.

So I uninstalled it and tried to re-install it and it gave me this error message:

This patch package could not be opened. Verify that
the patch package exists and that you can access it, or
contact the application vendor to verify that this is a
    valid Windows Installer patch package.

After getting that error message I tried again about 4 times and still got the same message.

PLEASE HELP!!!! I have been using this program daily since I got it and I’m freakin out now that I can’t use it.

    Thanks in advance.

Uninstall it, clean out the folder in your Program Files folder (I’m assuming you’re using Windows). Be sure to keep your plugins and such backed up.

Then clean your registry with a registry cleaning software.

    Reboot and try installing again.

It didn’t work but running the software did make my computer run FASTER!

Is there anything else you can suggest?

Thank you for your help so far!

This may not solve your problem, but it will definately help you in making your computer go faster and may delete temp files that might be obstructing the installation.

    Try Clean Up!

    https://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/

It’s going to get rid of all the stuff you don’t need on your comp (such as tmp files and the such) and will undoubtedly free up alot of disk space as well as make ur computer nice and tidy.

In the meanwhile, I’ll look at what else you could do to fix your problem

It didn’t solve the problem but it cleaned up almost 700MB of space which is awesome! Thank you.

I know I could reinstall it if I reinstall the OS but I really hate to do that becuase I just did it about 3 months ago and have a ton of programs I use on a weekly basis. I would do that as a last resort.

I’ll be looking forward to anything else you may have for me.

Thank you and have great day!

Ok well I think we’re going to need a bit more info to help ya out on this one.

    Such as :

Did you do or install anything prior to your application failure? Did you upgrade anything, add a plugin, update Windows, anything?

Have you tried a system restore?

What system are you running on? Has anything abnormal happened to it lately?

Give us as much info as you can mate

You could try trashing your preferences. Hold down ctrl-alt-shift (cmd-optn-shift for Mac) when starting AE. This will give you a window that asks you if you want to reset AE.

Answering the question above: no. I even ran the program 4 or 5 times even after I had installed some plugins but it ran fine after that. However I did download some cloud scenes that were movies and were watermarked and it seemed as though that was the problem but I was thinking how can that be the problem it’s just a movie but I figure you never know. So thinking that may have been it I deleted them from the computer. Still didn’t work.

I tried a system restore and took it back 6 days and it didn’t work either.

Windows XP service pack 2, I might even have put service pack 3 if they have it when I downloaded windows updates one day – not sure on the sp3 though cause a lot has been thrown at me lately and can’t remember it all.

Nothing abnormal has happened to the computer lately.

Thank you also for all your help to make my AE run.

I wish I would have known about ctrl-alt-shift (cmd-optn-shift for Mac) when starting AE before I removed it from the computer but the problem now is that I can’t get it installed again because I get a message when trying to run the install exe that says:

This patch package could not be opened. Verify that
the patch package exists and that you can access it, or
contact the application vendor to verify that this is a
    valid Windows Installer patch package.

Thank you for trying to help me. Anything you could come up with would be appreciated a lot!

    Have a great day!

Hmmm… are you installing from a CD or from a compressed file? Maybe something is corrupt?

I’m trying to install from a zipped file on my hard-drive.

    Thank you.
