Everytime I go on this site I learn something new. It is great that there is such a supporting community.

But now I have a question:
I recently had to change out the Kona LS card for a new one. Something broke, I don’t know what, but lots went wrong.
Since I installed the new Kona LS card (same model as the previous one) All the previous problems disappeared, but a new one came up. The extarnal monitor, and the digitize window show vertical stripes in halftone and half shade areas. I trashed all the preference files and caches, but to no avail.
I’ve been told to reinstall FCP 5 again.
I don’t want to mess anything up in the process, because I’m in the middle of a very timesensitive project. Any delays will be lethal to the project’s deadline (no pun intended…)
Any hints on how to do a reinstall without problems?

G5, 2.7 GHz dual, 4GIG RAM, FCP 5, PAL project

    Thanks for the help

Check all your cables between the Kona and the G5. Sounds like you may have some pins loose on the cables. Pull the cables out and re-seat them before you do a re-install.

Since you’re only seeing this problem in the Digitize mode, it’s more than likely a cable connection, not FCP. I’ve seen a similar issue here after installing one of my Kona 2 cards where I had blue sparkles on the screen during Digitizing which were actually recorded on each clip. Turned out to be a loose cable.

    Thanks for the tip.
Unfortunately that didn’t do the trick.
The stripes also show on already digitized clips. They are only on the external monitor, not on the canvsa or viewer.
The clips I’ve digitized after the swap show the stripes on both displays.

If a reinstall is neccessary, do I have to reinstall allthe other programs that are in the FCP Studio?

[Caflama] “They are only on the external monitor, not on the canvsa or viewer.”

They are ONLY on the external monitor? That’s most likely an output issue and not an FCP issue, though I can’t be sure. Definitely have to work with AJA Tech support on that one and hopefully they can get you squared away.

    Walter you’re a genius!

It was either the card or the cable that wasn’t seated right.
I followed your advice (and my old and since forgotten adage from the old AVID days :”Wiggle thy cable!” and that did it.
    Poof, the picture was perfect.
    Thanks again for the help.
