re-editing a project
Posted by Chris Callaghan on August 26, 2009 at 6:22 amHi,
Ive done a multi-cam project and now the performer wants me to go back and bring up a segment I edited out.
I know roughly where the segment is, but I can’t seem to expand that part of the project so I can find the segment.
I need to expand the multi cam track, the sound track and a few other duplicate tracks that aren’t part of the Multi cam track
Can anyone here put me on the right path?John Rofrano replied 16 years, 8 months ago 2 Members · 5 Replies -

August 26, 2009 at 11:32 amWhen you say “multi-cam track” are you referring to the track that Vegas Pro combines all of your tracks into? And when you say “expand” do you mean that you want to get them back into multiple tracks? If so, the answer is… you can’t. It’s a one-way process. 🙁

August 27, 2009 at 12:33 amHello John,
Thanks for responding.
The Multicam track is the combined track created when I selected particular tracks to make into a multicam track. This left a number of other tracks untouched, such as audio and a few duplicate video tracks.
When I did the mutli cam edit, to remove any unwanted segments I would split ALL of the tracks somewhere near the edit point , slide them against each other and continue editing the multi cam by taking which shot I needed.
This got rid of chunks of unwanted material, such as chatter between songs etc.Now I want to “un-slide” these tracks apart. I know I can’t separate the individual tracks, which is why I left the sound tracks out of the multicam.
How do I go about selecting ALL tracks and “unslide” them apart, to see the segments that I removed?

The easiest way is to turn on Ripple Edit (Ctrl+L) with the All Tracks, Markers, and Regions option. Then move an event on the multi-camera track to the right and all related events on all other tracks will move with it opening up a gap. Then turn ripple edit off and extend the events to reveal the cutout material.

August 29, 2009 at 2:46 amHi John,
thanks for putting me straight on this. The trick is indeed turning ripple edit on, turning ALL tracks on and then dragging to the right.
I was getting stuck by leaving ripple on, instead of turning off and then opening the “hidden” segments. Again, thanks very much. -
